Albert Memorial Park

Some key points from the meetings.... More detail is below if required.

The Fence.

The fence has now been painted. There have been some attempts made by residents to complete the work, but the majority of the work was falling on very few people so It was decided to pay to get the painting finished. Both sides of the fence have been painted, both sides of the park. This was £600.

Gardening

Since the council stopped cutting the grass we have employed James the gardener to do this. He has also been trimming hedges, and this year, he has completed a major tidy up of the park including removal of rubbish, pruning etc. This has cost a further £360.

Rubbish!!

Someone is dumping empty cider bottles in the park, neatly bagged up. If anyone knows who is doing this, contact us! It is antisocial, and costs time and money to clear up.

AGM

The AGM will soon be on us. Please turn up! This is your chance to say what you think, and put your suggestions forward. What do YOU want to see YOUR money spent on? Suggestions please!

Albert Park Minutes, 2.3.11

Apologies - Judith, John, Kirsten, David and Damien.

1. Fence painting - All completed inside and out by spray painting method, cost £600 - labour and paint. Thanks to Michelle for use of her electricity and organising repeated visits due to weather. As previously discussed the fence painting can't be left to a handful of people to do.

2. Gardener, James, has completed major tidy up of park, pruning, clearing rubbish etc, ( took away 4 van loads of garden waste) and sadly found loads of bottles again, strangely a lot of them bagged up??? Keep a look out for who,s dumping them! Park looking really good at the minute, grass will be cut when appropriate, included in cost of £360. Again as previously discussed and agreed the work can’t be left to handful of people.

3. Shed- to be removed from park, damaged and couldn’t be agreed where to put it. Already chopped up and Nigel to remove from park? Please!

Committee Meeting Minutes 13.10.10.

Apologies.   Phil, Judith, Ian, Kate, Paul and Jane.

Attendees. Karen H, Nigel, Sarah, Damien, Alex, Michelle.

1. Fence painting. Problems with weather and paint (not suitable for spray painting machine). Thanks to Alan for getting paint at great price and hopefully will try to swop it on Saturday for the type now needed, if this is not possible the paint will be bought at B&Q although it will cost considerably more, £160. However, this is still considerably cheaper than the other quotes received. Alex will let Alan know.

2.Park clear up day 31.10.10.

Nigel will talk to Ian and John who have started a jobs list and make a plan for the day. Posters on fence to encourage attendance? Depending on attendance on the day and work completed we will get a quote from James (gardener) for any outstanding work. It was noted what a good job he has done throughout the summer with lawns and hedges at a reasonable price. Michelle will contact him when necessary.

Fix fence on Myrtle Grove. Derek and Alex when free and weather permitting.

3. Christmas Prep.

Selection Boxes  Karen negotiating a deal at Coop Low fell! Approx cost £100.

Mulled wine and mince pies. Michelle will ask John if he is willing to organise, and get numbers and shopping.

Salvation Army. Michelle has booked, cost £60 approx.

Christmas cards. Damien has selection of photo,s and will select image and organise card,to be ready by end of November. (Sarah,s orders!).

Future idea- selling packs of Christmas cards at Summer Fair, Images of Albert Park.

Santa,s Grotto.

Really successful again last year, we think about 70 children received gifts. Karen worried about how long it takes to get everyone through house and people missing part of Carol Service. I  will try and make Grotto area in front garden, maybe seat in path between Karen's and Sarah's,  and Santa to hand out gifts to children either before or after Carols. Discuss again at next meeting.

Christmas night out.

Nigel is going to check prices/ availability of Saltwell Towers. (Meal or buffet options).

Central Bar Gateshead is fully opening soon. (Night out?)

If anyone has any other  ideas please email or we will discuss at next meeting.

Next meeting Wednesday 3.11.10, 7.30pm at Sarah and Damien's (no.11).

ALBERT MEMORIAL PARK - Minutes of the meeting held on 29th of July

Attendees: Nigel, Karen H, Sarah, Ian, Michelle and Paul

Apologies: Judith, Phil, John, David, Kirsten, Alex and Andrea, KarenG.

1.  Fence Painting - 3 quotes have been received, the lowest one being £250 for outside of fence.  The cost of paint is estimated at £50-60.  Agreed to proceed  with this job and also to  get price for interior. (Michelle).

2.  Gardener asked to leave - the gardener now knows to ignore any such interruptions and letter to be sent to resident at number 15 Albert Drive (Paul)

3.  General Maintenance - fence posts, fence rails - fixing of.  Nigel to check park for damage, Karen has bought 2 fence posts and metal stakes but job still needs to be done (job has been rained off, snowed off and lack of sledgehammer at last clear up).  This work is to be completed at the next clear up -which is due 31 October. We all missed the last agreed park tidy, which we had set for 25 July. Do we want to do a Park Gardening  day before then? (See Nigel)

4.  New Benches for bottom end of park -  Discussed issues around the benchs, considering the wants of people at the lower end, some who want a bench, others who are  concerned it may attract unwanted visitors. Agreed to  reposition the damaged bench lower down in the park, and not buy a new one at this time.

5.  Fix the benches in middle of park - Phil is working on broken bench.

6.  Projects to be deferred for autumn - consider budget.  Discussion on agreeing a budget for planting - amount not agreed at present, wait until end of summer and see what funds are available after grass cutting and fence painting/maintenance costs.  Ideas for 31 OCT Garden day - 1. tidy up the centre beds, both the foliage, a poss fixing/ cementing the circle stonework. 2. replace broken posts 3. Select a specific area  to gain some block planting, eg x30 shrubs - Any  further idea, please send to Nigel - we can make these into the list of work for the Garden day.

7.  Planting  - a) see above

                   b) discussion on gardener being paid to do maintenance jobs, general feeling is to see how the next clear up day goes.

                    c) Ian offered some shrubs from his garden.  Does anyone else have anything to donate?

                   d) New tree planted appears to be doing well.  Thank you Alex!

N.B. NEXT CLEAR UP DAY IS 31/10/10 - please attend, as this will be the last clear up of the year!!

8.  Gazebos - the pop up metal type are on sale at Halfords, agreed to buy 3 more at £40 each as so much less hassle than existing ones. E.g. it took 8 people over an hour on the Fair day to assemble the current large tent. We had to borrow  some poles from some ones tent to make it work. If it fails,  we have no protection against rain on the day.  N.B. There is one of the pop up type missing - does anyone know where it is? Nigel will get these - keep in Paul's Garage for now, ok?

9.  A.O.B - a) Thank you gift and card to be sent to Vera who kindly donated so much for the park fair (Michelle).

               b) Shed - we have been donated a shed, discussion on where it could be placed without spoiling anyones outlook and attracting trouble.  Mixed views, possibility of placing at bottom end of park away from houses and see how it goes?  If any problems it can easily be removed but after discussing it for so long it would seem sensible to give it a go as when we have clear up days it is always difficult to access tools, etc for those who turn up, and garage space kindly available from Paul may not always be there.

If shed space doesn't happen we need to price metal, secure storage boxes for tools, etc, and a safe location in park.   (Nigel)

              c) Budget for plants can be discussed at next meeting, prior to clear up day.

Next Meeting is the 6th of October 7.30pm.
